Mental Health Association of Monmouth County Partners with
Family & Children’s Service for Layers of Wellness Clothing Drive
Tinton Falls, NJ – Always focused on the immediate needs and gaps of our communities, the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County completed its first Layers of Wellness clothing drive on Friday, March 17, and delivered 106 bags of new clothes and wellness resources to Family & Children’s Service (FCS) – the oldest private nonprofit social service agency in Monmouth County.
The drive, first announced in November 2022, welcomed donations from individuals and families through February 2023 and provided new hats, socks, gloves, scarves, pajamas, and more to vulnerable seniors who often lack the compassionate care and support needed during the winter months.
“Social isolation and loneliness put many adults at increased risk for mental health concerns,” says Marie Argibay-Boccasino, Information and Referral Specialist at the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County. “Layers of Wellness allowed us to reach an often-overlooked population and provide them with warmth, comfort, and the assurance that we’re here for them.”
The community response was overwhelming. Among the donations, which included crocheted scarves, neck warmers, and blankets, the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County also received contributions from Community Solutions Alliance, Shrewsbury Borough School District, Family & Children’s Service, and No Stigma Network.
Family & Children’s Service facilitated the distribution of items to 72 seniors and 34 aides.
“The experience has been heartwarming,” says Argibay-Boccasino, “and we look forward to hosting Layers of Wellness again next winter.”
